The main purpose of a mediator is to:

  • To mediate between parties involved in a dispute, to help resolve their differences or reduce the intensity of conflict between them. To achieve resolution of neighbourhood conflict through mutual agreement of the parties without resource to the formal process of the law.
  • Once mediators are competent in community mediation, with additional training and support they are then able to be considered to work in other fields of mediation.

Board Members

The main purpose of the board is to:

  • Ensure that Mediation Somerset is managed efficiently, effectively and in accordance with the Charities Commission, Companies House and best practice;
  • Uphold the good name of Mediation Somerset and the principles for which it stands
  • The Board of Trustees meets six times a year in an evening, the meetings normally last for two hours. Directors are expected to assist in the development of the service by bringing some specialised knowledge to help take the service forward.
